Victorian Shades Specializing in one of a kind originals. 352-978-3848 donnaladley@embarqmail.com I was blessed to have a very talented great grandmother. Back around the turn of the century, she made the most beautiful lampshades. Her twin daughters, May and Margaret, cherished them and the lovely memories that they held dear for many years. When my great aunt neared her 80th birthday, she passed the treasure on to my mother. The lamp shades were my favorite furnishings that my mother owned. I was so fascinated with the shades they became a passion. I was introduced to lovely antiques from my Uncle Jim. When I was old enough to take care of his child, I would bask in the glorious vintage furnishings surrounding the entire house. This furniture sparked the fire of passion for anything old and beautiful. Such as the Tiffany style lamp shades and parlor furniture. We grew up in San Francisco, so my father and uncle came up with some great pieces that survived the big earthquake. The lamp shades I started making in 1967. I would buy the old bases with the original frames. I started by just adding fringe, later building up to tearing them down and restoring them. My father would make my frames for me. He was so talented. Later in the years my husband made the frames. We copied the originals that I collected and even designed some of my own. I started my business in Santa Cruz, California. I would sell then in San Francisco, Monterey, Hollywood and Beverly Hills. I have been so lucky to have my shades in hotels in New York and many bed & breakfasts throughout the United States. Many right here in Mt. Dora. I have had the shades in movies such as Psycho 4 and the opening shot of Tarzan. The shades are in many movie stars homes, as well as Beach Boys’ Mike Love. I have met so many wonderful people over the years. I have traveled to many states such as Colorado where the shades were bought by the owner of the Paragon Ballroom in Aspen. I also sold them in Santa Cruz to the wonderful restaurant The Shadow Brook. I have been blessed to be a part of Renningers for 20 years. My shades are all one of a kind. I hand dye all my fabrics. My beaded fringes are from Europe and Asia. Trimmings are of vintage style. I collect my bases that are from the 20’s, restore them and add new wiring. Shades can be ordered to your needs. I can also restore most lamp shades. Some exceptions but for the most part I can restore most anything. |
